This article is intended for customers who want to connect their domain to Shopify by updating DNS records in cPanel.

To connect your domain to Shopify, you need to update its DNS records in cPanel. This involves setting up an A record and a CNAME record to point to Shopify's servers.

Note: Shopify’s DNS records may change over time. To check for the latest settings, refer to Shopify’s guide: Connect your domain manually to Shopify.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

  1. Open cPanel:

  2. Locate the Zone Editor:

    • In the Domains section, click on Zone Editor:

  3. Select Your Domain:

    • Find the domain you wish to authenticate and click on the "Manage" button:

Step 2: Update the A Record

  1. Find the existing A record for your domain (e.g., example.com).

  2. Click Edit and update the IP address to Shopify’s IP: 23.227.38.65.

  3. Click Save Record.

If there is no existing A record for your domain, click Add Record and enter:

  • Type: A

  • Name: example.com (replace with your own domain)

  • Address: 23.227.38.65

  • Click Save Record.

Step 3: Add the AAAA Record

  1. Look for any existing AAAA record for your domain (e.g., example.com).

  2. If you've found an AAAA record, click Edit and update the IP address to Shopify’s IP: 2620:0127:f00f:5::.

  3. Click Save Record.

If there is no existing AAAA record for your domain, click Add Record and enter:

  • Type: AAAA

  • Name: example.com (replace with your own domain)

  • Address: 2620:0127:f00f:5::

  • Click Save Record.

Step 4: Update the CNAME Record

  1. Locate the CNAME record for www.example.com (replace with your own domain).

  2. Click Edit and update the value to shops.myshopify.com.

  3. Click Save Record.

If there is no existing CNAME record for www.example.com, click Add Record and enter:

  • Type: CNAME

  • Name: www

  • Record: shops.myshopify.com

  • Click Save Record.

All of the three DNS records mentioned above should look like this:

Step 5: Remove Conflicting Records (if applicable)

  • If there are existing A, AAAA or CNAME records conflicting with the new ones, delete them before saving the correct entries.

Step 6: Verify and Connect the Domain in Shopify

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin panel.

  2. Go to Settings > Domains.

  3. Click Connect existing domain and enter your domain name.

  4. Click Next, then Verify Connection.

  5. It may take up to 48 hours for DNS changes to propagate.

Once verified, your Shopify store will be connected to your domain.
