This article is intended for customers who previously used Gmail’s “Check mail from other accounts (POP3)” feature to import their Maxer email into Gmail.
From January 2026, Google has removed the Gmailify feature and the “Check mail from other accounts (POP3)” option in Gmail. This change affects all hosting providers and means you can no longer connect a Maxer-hosted mailbox to Gmail using the old POP3 Mail Fetcher method.
If you previously followed our guide "Setup your regular email address in Gmail", that method no longer works.
If you would like to read Google’s official announcement, you can find it here: Google Help Centre: Learn about upcoming changes to Gmailify & POP in Gmail.
What does this mean?
- Gmail on the web can no longer import email from your Maxer mailbox using POP3.
- Gmail can no longer act as a “mail hub” for external mail accounts.
- Existing email already imported into Gmail remains there, but new mail will no longer be fetched automatically.
What still works
- You can access your Maxer mailbox using IMAP in Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Android Mail, or other email apps.
- You can add your Maxer mailbox to the Gmail mobile app using IMAP (as a separate account).
- You can move fully to Google Workspace if you want Gmail to host your domain email.
What should you do next?
Choose the option that best fits you:
If you run a business or company
→ We recommend moving fully to Google Workspace
See: Moving your domain email to Google Workspace
If you are a freelancer or sole trader
Recommended options:
- Google Workspace, or
- Gmail mobile app with IMAP, or
- A normal email app (Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird)
If you are an individual user
Recommended options:
- Gmail mobile app (IMAP setup), or
- cPanel Webmail, or
- A normal IMAP/POP email app
We do NOT recommend replacing POP import with email forwarding.
