This article is intended for customers who want to connect an email account hosted on our servers to Yahoo! Mail using IMAP.
As of 15 May 2024, Yahoo has updated its authentication requirements for external email accounts. This change affects users attempting to add accounts using standard IMAP/SMTP settings.
What’s Changed?
Yahoo! Mail no longer supports standard IMAP/SMTP connections for external email accounts unless the provider supports OAuth authentication. Our email service does not currently support OAuth, which means:
-
You cannot connect your email account hosted with us to Yahoo! Mail using IMAP.
-
Attempts to add the account will likely result in authentication errors or failed setup.
Alternative Options
While Yahoo! Mail cannot be used to access your email account hosted with us, you can still connect your mailbox to several popular email apps and services that support standard IMAP/SMTP connections:
-
Gmail (via POP3)
-
Microsoft Outlook
-
Mozilla Thunderbird
-
Apple Mail
-
Android
-
BlueMail
-
Spark Mail
-
Other desktop or mobile email clients
These apps support the standard authentication methods required by our servers and can be configured using the correct email settings: Locating Email Account Information in cPanel's Connect Devices Section
