This article is intended for new customers who wish to move their website and/or domain to Maxer Host.
Maxer Host offers a free website migration service to help new customers move from their current hosting provider to our platform as smoothly as possible. Our experienced technicians will handle the process of copying your website to Maxer Host, and we’ll also advise you on domain name transfers if needed.
Below are important details you should review before requesting a migration.
Key Points to Note:
-
Website migrations and domain name transfers are separate processes.
Transferring your domain name does not mean your website has been migrated. Please don’t assume both have been done unless confirmed. -
The website migration service is completely free and very popular.
We migrate hundreds of customers each week. While some migrations are completed within a few hours, others may take a few days or even longer depending on demand. Your patience is appreciated. -
There may be some downtime, especially for large websites.
We always aim to minimise downtime and carry out most migration work outside office hours. However, please be prepared for short service interruptions during the process. -
We need full access to your previous hosting account.
To ensure a smooth and efficient migration, please provide full login details to your old hosting provider’s control panel and any necessary FTP/database access. This avoids repeated back-and-forth requests for information. -
Migrations may be delayed by urgent support cases.
Our technical team also supports hundreds of dedicated server clients. In the event of high-priority issues (e.g. server hardware failure), your migration may be postponed, even if previously scheduled. -
The previous hosting provider must be operational.
If your previous web hosting account has been suspended, cancelled, or deleted, we will not be able to perform the migration. Please ensure your site is still online and accessible before contacting us. -
You are responsible for checking your website after migration.
We always strive for the best possible outcome, but due to the many variables involved, we cannot guarantee a perfect copy. Once your website is live on Maxer Host servers, it is your responsibility to test and confirm that everything is working correctly, and inform us of any possible issues in a timely manner, ideally before the account on the remote server is terminated.
What Can Be Migrated?
The type of control panel your previous host uses determines how much data we can transfer and how easily.
If your old provider uses cPanel (www.cpanel.net):
-
We can migrate your entire hosting account, including:
-
Website files
-
Databases
-
Email accounts (including messages, passwords, and folder structure)
-
Cron jobs, settings, and more.
-
-
The process involves:
-
Logging in to your old cPanel account
-
Taking a full backup
-
Transferring it to our servers
-
Restoring the account fully
-
Updating your domain’s nameservers to point to Maxer Host
-
✅ This is the most complete and seamless migration possible.
If your old provider uses Plesk, DirectAdmin, Webmin, ISPConfig, or any other non-cPanel control panel:
-
We can perform a manual migration of:
-
Website files (via FTP)
-
Databases (via phpMyAdmin or similar tools)
-
-
Email accounts are not included in manual migrations. In this case you will need to:
-
Log in to your new cPanel control panel at Maxer
-
Navigate to the ‘Email Accounts’ page
-
Manually recreate all your email addresses and passwords
-
📌 Please note that email account contents and mail folders will not be migrated unless your previous provider allows access to the raw email files and they are in a supported format (Maildir or mdbox). As an alternative, our team can attempt to synchronise the email content from the remote server using the IMAPSync tool or similar methods. This work can be time-consuming, must be scheduled in advance, and may incur an additional charge.
How to Request a Free Migration
To get started, please contact our support team:
-
Submit a support ticket
-
Or email support@maxer.com
📝 We require all requests in writing, as our migrations team follows a process to ensure the work goes smoothly. Once we receive your request, we will review the current technical setup, assess the work required using our internal checklists, and schedule the migration at an appropriate time. You will receive an email with all the relevant technical details and a proposed migration date and time.
Additional Recommendations
-
Backup your website before migration. While we take every precaution, it’s always a good idea to keep your own backup.
-
Stop any work on the website before the scheduled migration time, as this may lead to data inconsistencies.
-
Consider enabling maintenance mode before the scheduled migration time, especially on e-commerce websites, to prevent orders being submitted during the migration time.
-
Plan ahead for any DNS propagation delays (up to 48 hours) after nameserver changes.
-
Inform your team and customers about possible website or email disruptions (especially when moving from non-cPanel systems) so that preparations can be made.
If you have any questions or are unsure whether your current provider uses cPanel, please feel free to contact us. We’re here to help ensure your move to Maxer Host is as smooth as possible.
