The legal owner of a .IE domain name can be updated through a manual process where we submit a request to the .IE Domain Registry to have the new holder verified by their registration team. To request a change of legal owner, please open a support ticket.

Normally, there is an administrative fee of €30 euro+vat for the legal ownership change. Some exceptions apply, for example when you can prove that the domain name is part of a larger acquisition (such as when a company acquires a new business, signs a contract and one of the business assets is the domain name). Our team will offer you discounted pricing if multiple domain names can be processed in one go and/or the new legal owner matches exactly an already verified domain holder.

To speed the process up, please also include supporting information about the new holder. This could be one of the following, depending on who the new holder is:

Please provide JUST ONE of the documents from the list below if the new holder is a company/business:

  • CRO/RBN number (you can search for it here: https://search.cro.ie/company/CompanySearch.aspx)
  • Northern Ireland company number (you can search for it here: https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk)
  • VAT number (registered in the Republic of Ireland/Northern Ireland)
  • Tax Clearance certificate from Ireland’s Revenue Commissioners (or other correspondence from them showing your VAT number)
  • Correspondence from HM Revenue and Customs (showing you are registered for trading and resident on the island of Ireland)
  • Irish or EU Community Trademark number or certificate
  • WIPO Trademark number or certificate (if enforceable in Ireland)

Alternatively, if the application is for personal use and NOT business use, please provide JUST ONE of the following:

  • Irish passport
  • Irish driving licence / UK driving licence (showing Northern Ireland address)
  • Irish/Northern Irish bank statement showing an address in the island of Ireland
  • Official college ID (from a college recognised by the Department of Education)
  • Public Services Card
  • Correspondence from Ireland’s Revenue Commissioners showing your PPS number
  • Utility bill showing an Irish address (if accompanied by a passport or driving licence)

If you are sending a document, please attach it to your support ticket. A scan or a photo taken with a smart phone will be fine.

Please also include admin contact details of the new holder (full name, company name, address, e-mail address and phone number).

If the new holder is located outside of Ireland, please note that additional documents, such as sales invoices showing trade to/from Ireland, trademarks enforceable in Ireland, etc. will be required. Please let us know if this is the case and further details will be sent to you.
